This is glorious as Mark Hughes gives Newcastle no credit for the win

I hated Mark Hughes as a player and if anything, it has got even worse since he moved into management.

He really is pathetic.

I just knew he wouldn’t give Newcastle any credit for their very deserved victory on Monday afternoon and sure enough…

Newcastle were by far the better team and created many more clear chances with Jack Butland very busy as he kept the Magpies at bay for so long.

On the other hand, Stoke just hoofed the ball up the pitch hoping that Peter Crouch might be somewhere in that direction.

Atsu could have had a hat-trick, Ciaran Clark somehow cleared the ball from right on their goal-line instead of scoring, Dwight Gayle should have had a penalty, with a number of other chances for United before Perez’ excellent winner after fine work from Murphy.

Mark Hughes’ reaction?

A deluded Mark Hughes…’Newcastle have come here and done us on the break late on…we had any number of chances to score’.

As the BBC Sport stats show below, Stoke only had three efforts on target and two of those were in the last few minutes as Mark Hughes threw more men in and around Peter Crouch, Darlow making a couple of exceptional saves.

However, don’t believe the very sour Mark Hughes, if Newcastle hadn’t won it would have been a travesty.

Mark Hughes:

“We are disappointed to have lost the game because clearly we deserved to have taken something out of it.

“Things just aren’t going for us at the moment, this one wasn’t to be, and it clearly wasn’t the result we were hoping for.

“We simply have to pick ourselves back up and get on with it because there is no point feeling sorry for ourselves.

“A lot of this is down to our own making, some has been down to misfortune, that isn’t excuse making, it is the reality of things.

“With regards to the game today Newcastle have come here and done us on the break late on, just after we had lost Erik Pieters to injury and were having to reshuffle.”

“We weren’t able to get guys over quick enough, they put the ball across and end up scoring the goal that wins them the game.

“We had any number of chances to score ourselves though, I seem to recall their keeper making three or four fantastic saves and there were plenty of other opportunities too.

“It’s fair to say that we are going through a difficult period at the moment, but there are plenty of games left and we will turn the corner.”
