Romelu Lukaku has ominous warning for Newcastle fans

Romelu Lukaku and Manchester United looked sure to match their city rivals all the way in the first two months of the season.

However, whilst Manchester City have continued to march on with now 10 wins and a draw from their first 11 matches, Man Utd have fallen away.

They still remain second but are now eight points off the top and have Spurs level on points, with Chelsea just one behind.

The first seven Premier League games brought seven goals for Romelu Lukaku and six wins and a draw for the team, they looked formidable, the side scoring 21 goals and averaging three per match.

Since September though it has been a different matter, no further league goals for Lukaku, only two overall for the team, and only four points from a possible 12. Losing at Huddersfield was their lowest point and to be fair, the other three matches were against Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham.

Romelu Lukaku though believes that better times are just around the corner, starting with Newcastle United on Saturday.

The striker blaming injuries for many of the team’s problems and thinks that with a number of stars due back, they will be once again creating chances and scoring plenty of goals.

Paul Pogba is now back training, with the likes of Rojo, Carrick and Fellaini also possibilities to be involved on Saturday, though thankfully Ibrahimovic is still some way off a return.

Lukaku already has five Premier League goals against Newcastle four for Everton and one for West Brom.  It will go a long way towards Rafa Benitez’ team getting a result if they can extend the striker’s current league goal drought beyond the seven weeks it currently stands at.

Romelu Lukaku talking to Sky Sports

“Lately, we haven’t performed like we did at the start of the season.

“We started by blowing teams away, being dominant and creating chances.

“But in the last few weeks we didn’t play at the same level and that made it more difficult for me.

“That is the sort of thing you have to go through in the season, but now there are players coming back from injury, and hopefully we can deliver performances even better than at the start of the season.

“We can create more chances and more goals.”
